South Vietnamese forces are informed that there is a Viet Cong company near Ap Tan Thoi and move to engage it. They land a regiment to the north, two battalions from the south and a mechanised squadron from the southwest.
However, the Viet Cong are expecting them and are dug in along the route between Ap Tan Thoi and Ap Bac.
The Viet Cong fire from their fox holes at 20 yards and pin down the Civil Guards. Throughout the day the South Vietnamese forces make three major assaults on the lines but fail. They call in reinforcements and units from the 8th Airbourne Batallion are committed but they are landed in the west and not the east where they were hoped to complete the surround of the Viet Cong units. During the helicopter lift of other units 14 out of 15 helicopters are hit and 5 of them are destroyed.
Artillery was called in but because the forward observation units didn't want to expose themselves the rounds all missed. There is no artillery in this game to reflect that.
